Fall 2020 Virtual Plans
Since July 31, 2020, all student organizations are prohibited from in-person meetings. For this semester we will be holding all GIMs through Zoom (see our Facebook page for details).
However, members have reached out to us, concerned about the value of attending a virtual event, and understandably so; e-learning hasn't been the greatest experience for most. To this, we offer the following message:
To new members (especially freshmen):
The transition to Rutgers has been...underwhelming, at best. Virtual New Student Orientation likely was not enough for you to feel part of this school, nor enough for you to form strong connections with your peers. You are taking online classes with hundreds of other classmates, far too large and impersonal to really meet new friends. Maybe you have friends from your high school, but you feel rather isolated for a undergraduate body of 60,000.
If you relate to this at all, consider joining CSO and applying for our Intern Program. Even if virtual gatherings aren't your cup of tea, you will meet other members and get to know our family. More importantly, you will set yourself up for a more fruitful return to campus, whenever that may be.
To returning members:
Quarantine, for many, meant sticking with old friends and losing contact with new ones. Trying to catch up is difficult, as a conversation can go as poorly as this:
"What've you been up to in quarantine"
"Not much, it's been kind of boring. How about you?"
"Same, been stuck at home all day."
"..."
We will do our best to provide a casual setting to reconnect with friends you haven't seen in months and provide opportunities to meet new faces, despite the physical distance between us.
